Now that we know that the H5N1 contaminated farm in Suffolk has sister farms in Hungary, there is no doubt as to the cause of the outbreak.
Hungary is the only country in Europe where up till now H5N1 outbreaks are known. And it turns out now that already on Tuesday several birds had died. Not until Thursday this was reported to the authorities. In the meantime several of the 1000 workers at the farm walked in and out of the sheds without precautions.
Housing hobby poultry, as the Dutch government has proclaimed, attributes in no way to controlling this outbreak. Anyway we, hobby holders have heard no arguments to uphold the decision. It’s absurd that the Dutch hobby birds should pay the bill again. Housing hobby birds should be banned immediately.
