ELA's Board and Council have expressed their worries about the non-activity of the EU Commission regarding AHS in a letter (letter download ahs-measures_council_080826) to the Commission and to the EU-Council, Ministers of Agriculture of the various Member States.

 
Dutch BT-vaccination plan Afdrukken E-mail

The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture has published their btvaccinationplan_2008.
the idea is to start the campaign around 15 May, when the first million doses of vaccines will be delivered by Intervet.

The vaccines will be distributed to the vets. There will not be sufficient doses for all animals to be vaccinated in May, so the Minister has advised to start with breeding sheep and goats, lambs and dairy cows.
However it s up to the vets to make a ckoice of who gets first.
The second million will be delivered in June nad the rest (4M) in August.

On 17 and 18 October a 2-day event took place on animal diseases and control maeasures.

After the meetings a group of participants decided to draw up a btresolution22_10_07en to be sent to all relevant policy makers, EU Commission, EU Parliament and the various governments and MPs.

Culling and vaccination will not help after an outbreak Afdrukken E-mail

When in an area with high density animal production an outbreak occurs, culling nor emergency vaccination will help. The disease will go faster than the cullers can work or the vaccination can be effective.
Therefore the only alternative should be preventive vaccination.
Thus show the research results by Wageningen University, Holland.
